Marbella GCC 29th August 2024
Marbella was the venue for our latest game and we were kindly sponsored by Julie and Sheelagh who are members at Marbella.
This was a medal qualifier for our finals day in November with 4 players going through, 2 from the gross comp and 2 from the Net comp.
This works by the top 2 from the gross competition going through then the next best 2 In the net comp who hadn’t gone through from the gross comp this way we get 4 different qualifiers for the final each time we play medal ( this was explained to me by Bob so bear with me I think I’ve got it right).
On the course it was a very humid day and the greens weren’t as quick as usual. We did however have 2 Eagle 2’s on the front 9 , Dave Errington getting 1 of them on the par 4 7th Hole and Dennis Regan holing his 2nd shot on the 5th hole, story has it that his group spent a considerable time looking for his ball and then eventually decided to have a look in the hole and low and behold there it was, his score of 2 was in a 4 hole sequence of scores 9,2,8,9!!
Next week we have our version of the Ryder cup, North v South with the South looking for revenge after there hammering last year.

Santana Golf 22nd August 2025
Thursdays game was back at Santana again and we were kindly sponsored by Colin Bryan.
With enough members this week we were able to play for order of merit points and the numbers were boosted by 10 guests as well which was great to see.
The course was a tough test with some of the par 5’s close on 600 yards and some of the pins tucked away in some tough places, this showed in the scores where the winning score was relatively low for Santana. However 2 of our guests who were playing together came in with great scores with both having 22pts on the back 9 holes and only separated by a countback on the back 6 holes.

2nd, Bob Sawyer, 33pts, playing off 9.3, now 9.0.
3rd, Gary Sparrow, 32pts, playing off 7.5, now 7.3.

Next week we are playing at Marbella which will be a medal qualifier for finals day in November with the first 2 in the Gross and Net categories going through to the final, the first tee time will be at 10.30.
After the presentation down at the Red Dragon next week , the pairings for the first days matches of the Ryder Cup at Guadlahorce will be announced by the Captains Dennis Regan and Ray Critcher.
Santana Golf 8th August 2024
Our latest game was played at Santana, this was a late change of venue due to Guadlahorce hosting a federation competition all week.
Unfortunately Santana were doing some maintenance on thier fairways so they weren’t in the best condition, covered in sand but at least we got used to playing out of sand.
Due to low numbers which is usual now for this time of year, there were no order of merit points up for grabs and we also didn’t cut handicaps for the top 3 like we usually do, we were only cutting if anyone scored over 36pts, alas nobody did and everyone got 0.1 back due to the low scores. There was one good score from one of our guests Matt Campbell who playing off a 3 hcp scored 35pts, Matt is the son In law of John Yuill so obviously John’s coaching is working.

Calanova Golf 1st August 2024
Calanova was the venue for our latest game and we were kindly sponsored by Jason Abbasciano and was a medal qualifier with the first 2 in each category going through to the finals day in November.
This was our first game for quite a while at Calanova and as usual the course was in excellent condition, however it turned into a brutal day as the forecasted hot temperatures reached 42 degrees and plenty of liquid was needed during and after the game.

2nd, Don Crowley, Net 85, no change in handicap.
Nearest the pin in One on Hole 8 in only his 3rd game ever and boy did he let everyone know Brian Wilson.
