January 2024

Santa Maria 25th January 2024

This week’s game was played at Santa Maria and was kindly sponsored by Mark Matthews.

With a full house of 44 players this was our best turnout for a very long time and was great to see, the numbers were boosted by 6 guests courtesy of our sponsor who were over from the UK for a “quiet” golfing holiday, unfortunately after 1 day Mark was already suffering with a bad back so he was only able to play 9 holes , I’m sure the back got easier as the night went on.

After checking all the cards it was close at the top with the winner being very modest and quiet at the presentation and when you see who did win you know that statement isn’t true.

Guadalhorce 18th Januray 2024

This Thursdays game took us back to Guadalhorce golf club which we hadn’t played since last year’s ryder cup.

Thursday’s Game was Sponsored By TBGS.

After some very welcome rain overnight and pre tee off the weather gods were on our side as it turned into a lovely winters day with temperatures hitting 20 degrees in the end (sorry to those in the UK who were battling the snow and freezing temps that day 🥶🥶🥶😎😎)

As usual the course was a tough test with the greens still very quick despite the rain.

We now have a new website that Simon has updated, this has a slightly different name and it can be found at www.torreblancagolfsociety.com

Also the next few weeks we are very very busy with a few weeks already full and some only having limited places left available so if you have not got your name down or you are not a regular you may be disappointed, we do try for extra tee times some weeks if we are busy but this is not always possible with it being high season for golf here over the next couple of months.

Parador 11th January 2024

This Thursday we played at Parador and were kindly sponsored by Martin and Pauline Fink.

This was the first time for about 6 months we had played here and as ever it proved to be the tough test it usually is especially with a strong breeze picking up in the morning.

Once the cards had been checked it was very close at the top with only 2 points between the top 7 with a count back needed to decide 3rd place with 5 on the same score.

Santana 4th January 2024

This Thursday we played our first game of 2024 at Santana and we were kindly sponsored by Dennis Regan.

This was the start of the new season for the society and the first game counting towards the order of merit.

On a fairly warm, humid day after a little bit of fine drizzly in the morning, the course was as good as ever with the only challenge the green keepers revenge with some of the pin positions. .

This made some of the putting very challenging indeed but once the scores had been checked this obviously didn’t bother our winner who came in with a magnificent score to win by 5 shots.

The only sour note of the day was 2 of our players had valuables stolen from their golf bags on the course.

Unfortunately we hear that this happens on quite a few courses we play now and again so please be careful where you park the buggies and what you take onto the course with you. It would be best to leave your valuables either in your car or in the lockers in the club house.
