Torreblanca Golf Society Reports

On these pages we post each weeks reports and results, we hope you enjoy them.

El Higueral 30th January 2025

Thursdays game was played down the coast at El Higueral and we were kindly sponsored by the returning Martin & Kay England.

As usual at El Higueral with it being a 9 hole course we played different tees on the front 9 and back 9 with men going white then yellow and ladies yellow then red. The course itself was in excellent condition with the fast greens some of the best we have played on for a long time. This proved tricky for the majority with only a handful of players breaking 30pts.

There were tales of woe told back at the bar afterwards as usual ranging from what seemed a mini competition going on as to who lost most balls, which I think 7 won 🫣, to how many bunkers you could go in on 1 hole, there was even one person who afterwards announced he had sand in his pockets he’d been in that many, including 3 different ones on the last hole.

When the presentation was done there was a birthday cake surprise with Dave Errington celebrating his 60th birthday.

Parador 13th January 2025

Parador was the venue for our latest game and we were kindly sponsored by Mark Matthews.

On a glorious sunny day with temperatures hitting the high teens and for a change at parador no wind (sorry to all those in the uk who have just had that bad storm) there were no excuses for bad golf but alas there were plenty to be heard afterwards.

The course played tough as usual with some tricky fast greens and the usual parador/links unlucky bounces.

When the all the cards were handed in there was a tie at the top with the back 9 score deciding the winner.

On a glorious day ,after a chilly start 🥶, the course as usual lately played that little bit tougher but our top 3 still managed good scores with our winner for the first time since joining the society , having a great day particularly the back 9 holes where we have never seen so many 4 pointers put on a card 🫣🫣.

Back at the Red Dragon for the presentation it was great to see the terrace full with current and some old members, obviously there to listen to Bob’s unique presentation for the day 😏

Cabopino 9th January 2025

Our 2nd game of the new season was played at Cabopino and we were kindly sponsored by Leigh Hopper.

As usual Cabopino played tough as usual with most pins tucked away at the back of the greens and stories of players 3 and 4 putting were heard often afterwards.

Only our top 3 managed to get 30pts or above with the top 2 only separated by a better back 9 score.

1st, Simon Waby, 33pts, back 9 of 18pts, playing off 4.8, now 4.3.

Next week we are playing Santana with the first tee time at 9.50, we have a full house of 36 players next week and like the next 5 weeks we are completely full with people on the reserve list.

This game signalled the start of the society’s new season with not only the order of merit starting again but the start of the new 3 monthly comp.

On a glorious winters day with temperatures nearly hitting 20 degrees and the course in better condition than when we played it a few weeks ago you would of thought the scores would of been high but surprisingly the scores were low, obviously new year had taken its toll.

Back at the Red Dragon after the usual presentation there was a birthday cake to be handed out and it was to our genial host Andy Hassall who without disclosing his age it was a milestone birthday which is level par on some courses.
