Santana 12th March 2026

Thursday was one of our most important days of the society’s year where we remember those members who are no longer with us and we play for the Passed Members Shield which after the last couple of weeks was a bit more poignant this time.

We were kindly sponsored by Leon Dore who donated the shield quite a few years ago and as he was here this time wanted to sponsor the day and hand over the shield to the winner.

As per other years everyone stayed up at Santana for tapas and drinks and the presentation on the terrace up there and on a gloriously sunny day the venue was fitting for the days presentation.

On the course , which was in superb condition , it played very very long with some wicked pin placements and this must of been one of the society’s lowest scoring days there but very enjoyable though.

At the presentation, Leon gave a short speech , well short for him, on the origins of the shield before presenting it to our worthy winner.

Anoerta 5th March 2026

Atalaya New was the venue for Thursday’s game and we were kindly sponsored by Ray Critcher.

After yet more rain on Wednesday the course was not too bad to play apart from some very slow greens which frustrated the majority of players.

However there were 3 great scores considering with 1 point separating the top 3.

Our winner put in 1 of them rounds he does every couple of years to finally get cut but this was the 1 time he couldn’t make it back to the Red Dragon afterwards so the king of the raffles on a Thursday had his prize go into the raffle afterwards.

This was a sad week for the society with 2 of the founding members passing away, Graham Pope and John Shiels, so after the presentation had finished Dennis Regan said a few words about them both and those back at the bar including Grahams wife Linda raised a glass to both of them in honour of them and remember there contribution over the years to the society.

Results from Atalaya New.

1st, John Yuill, 37pts, back 9 of 20pts, playing off 28.0, now 26.9.

2nd, Steven Taylor, 37pts, back 9 of 18pts, playing off 18.2, now 17.6.

3rd, Andy Hassall, 36pts, playing off 15.6, now 15.3.

Nearest the pin in One on Hole 4, Andy Hassall.

Nearest the pin in One on Hole 17, Simon Waby.

Next Thursday is one of our most important games of the year at Santana and is our passed members day, which after the last few days is quite appropriate this year, the presentation will be done up on the terrace at Santana when everyone has finished there game.
